Silver Lake Park

Lake - Photo by M. TrykarWelcome to Silver Lake Park

If you are looking for an outdoor recreation experience that gives you the best Whatcom County has to offer, then visit Silver Lake Park. Just 40 minutes east of Bellingham on the scenic Mount Baker Highway and right on the edge of the Mt. Baker National Forest/Recreation Area, the park is a perfect destination regardless of the season.

Amenities

Boatdock - photo by M. TrykarConsidered by many to be one of the Northwest’s premier camping parks, almost every form of recreation one associates with the outdoors is available at Silver Lake Park. The main attraction of the park is the lake itself and the myriad of water-related activities it provides. Nestled in a scenic mountain valley, this 180-acre lake has something for everyone. For those who like to fish there are open stretches of water for trolling, quiet bays and points with drop-offs for bank fishing, and an abundance of aquatic insects and habitat to challenge the fly fisher. You can launch your own watercraft at the public launch or rent rowboats, canoesCanoes - Photo by L. Chue or pedal boats from the park. Day use areas with tables and BBQ’s overlooking the swimming beach are the perfect setting for family picnics.

Silver Lake Park camping areas accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs. There are 92 individual campsites spread over the 411-acre park, and a separate Group Camp with RV hookups for up to 30 units. There is also a Horse Camp with 28 serviced campsites, two kitchen shelters, and stables with tie stalls for park users’ horses, with access to many miles of trails.

Cabins and Daylodge

If you’re not into “roughing it” you can stay in one of the six rustic cabins that overlook the lake and are just the place to get away to anytime of the year. The Overnight Lodge is a larger, accessible rental facility. With beautiful lake views and easy water access it‘s ideal for small groups, business retreats or family vacations. The Day Lodge is a beautiful setting for weddings, reunions, business seminars or just gathering all your friends together for a party.

And if all this isn’t enough, check out the Gerdrum Historical House and Black Mountain Forestry Center for some insight into early Whatcom County. Launch your hang-glider from the top of Black Mountain and descend 4,000 ft. to the landing area in the park. Watch beavers at work on their dams in Maple Creek, or maybe spot an osprey catching a trout. Whether you’re looking for a honeymoon getaway, planning a family reunion or just looking for some outdoor fun and a memorable camping experience, take a trip to Silver Lake Park. You’ll be back again and again.

Early reservations for all these facilities are recommended. For more information on these facilities, fees and reservation procedures, click on the links or call Silver Lake Park at (360) 599-2776.
