Chuckanut Mountain Park & Trail System

A labyrinth of trails can be found in the Chuckanut Mountains located just south of Bellingham. You will find great views of Mount Baker, Bellingham Bay, and more. Whatcom County Parks & Recreation has joined with Larrabee State Park, Bellingham Parks and the Department of Natural Resources to manage interconnecting trails on 8,000 acres of publicly owned land.

Whatcom County Parks & Recreation trails are easily accessible from the Pine & Cedar Lakes Trailhead and the North Chuckanut Mountain Trailhead. View map.

Chuckanut Ridge Trail

Moderate to Strenuous, 5.2 miles one-way hikers equestrians

An awesome meandering trail along the ridge with great views! The photo above was taken from this trail. From North Chuckanut Mountain Trailhead, hike 1.2 miles up Hemlock Trail to the North Lost Lake intersection. Then hike 1 mile up N. Lost Lake Trail to where the 3-mile long Chuckanut Ridge Trail begins. Total hiking distance is about 5.2 miles one-way. This moderate hike connects the front side trails (Cleator Road) to the back side trails (North Lost Lake).

South Chuckanut Mountain and Blanchard Hill

Larrabee State Park and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) manage many more miles of trails south of Whatcom County Parks' trails. Refer to the Chuckanut Mountain System Brochure/Map, available in our office. Also, view a map of trails online.
