Birch Bay Stormwater Management Plan

Birch Bay contains the largest recreational shellfish harvesting area in Washington State. As a result, water quality is a major concern for the Birch Bay Community both from an ecological and economic standpoint. The Subarea Plan includes goals and policies related to stormwater management that provide direction for the development of Low Impact Development standards to address stormwater as future development takes place and on-going monitoring of stormwater to help ensure that water quality concerns are identified early.

The consulting firm of CH2M Hill has completed the plan.  Efforts are underway by Whatcom County PDS and Public Works to implement the plan.   The Task Force for Stormwater Management/Shellfish Protection of the Birch Bay Steering Committee is assisting Whatcom County with the implementation strategy.
