Mission
The Whatcom County
Public Defender's office provides high quality legal representation
as efficiently and economically as possible, while maintaining
the confidence of our clients that they are receiving competent
and skilled representation as mandated by RCW 36.26 and by
the constitutions of the United States and the State of Washington.
Duties
Created in 1982
by constitutional mandate to provide indigent legal defense
for:
- Felony, misdemeanor and probation violation charges against
adults and juveniles in Whatcom County Superior and District
courts
- Parents in juvenile dependency matters
- Involuntary mental and alcohol commitments
