Facilities
Equipment Services provides for the workspace of other Whatcom
County Public Works divisions. This workspace includes various
offices, large shop and outside work areas, garages, parking spaces,
and gravel pits. There are also parcels of vacant land that are
 inventoried
and monitored against vandalism and unauthorized use.
There are facilities in Point Roberts, the City of Bellingham, a
large complex of buildings located near the City of Ferndale, and
on Lummi Island.
Each facility is secure and safe. Recent addition of security
lights and proximity locks with card readers at the Smith Road shop
facility have added a heightened level of security.
A computerized fuel system allows regulated access to fuel and
compiles fleet mileage and fuel consumption for the county fleet.
Underground fuel storage tanks located at the Smith Road site
provide fuel to all fleet vehicles using this computerized
inventory system. Spill and leak detection devices monitor any
possible problems in the underground system.
