Alternative Corrections Center
11/21/06 - The Alternative Corrections Center is now housed at the Whatcom County Interim Jail Work Center, located at 2030 Division St., Bellingham WA 98226, (360) 676-6909. See Map.
Applicants for Jail alternatives and Work Crew should report to this facility for all services. Office hours are 8-4 P.M., M-F.
Programs managed by the Alternative Corrections Center provide
the courts and offenders alternate forms of incarceration.
Each program is designed with specific goals and objectives
to provide the following:
- Identify and select participants who pose minimal
risk to the community and may benefit from this form of supervision.
- Offset the cost of correctional supervision by instituting
fees for participants.
- Establish specific supervision objectives and assist
participants in meeting them.
- Maintain intensive contact with participants.
Current alternative programs include:
- Electronic Home Monitoring
- Electronic Home Detention
- Work Release
- One Day
Offender Program
Additionally, the Alternative Corrections Center manages
five in custody offender work crews and three out of custody
offender work crews. Offender work crews perform a multitude
of jobs in the community including salmon habitat restoration,
greens maintenance and litter pick up.
Additional Benefits:
For the year 2004, a total of 2,640 offenders worked
58,464 labor hours, accounting for 29,702 jail incarceration
bed days, saving $826,670 in incarceration fees.
