Jail Improvement Fund

Project Background

The Jail Improvement Fund was established for the Jail & Juvenile Controls Project. This project was funded through a Federal Recovery Bond and included installation of new jail & juvenile controls and jail fire alarms. Actual construction for the retro-fit, started on 01/11/2012. The purpose of this project was to upgrade and replace the existing cameras, fire alarm and deluge release system, the Control Booth electronic system, control panels for all housing and cell areas, speakers, intercoms, conduit and wiring throughout the facility and installing a CCTV recording system.

Project Status

2nd Quarter 2015 Update
Whatcom County is working with the Designer and Contractor to complete the project.

3rd Quarter 2015 Update
Whatcom County is continuing to work the Designer and Contractor to complete the project.

4th Quarter 2015 Update
The County has reached an agreement with the Contractor on the completion of this project. We are working towards a final completion in the next six months.

1st Quarter 2016 Update
The County has reached an agreement with the Contractor on the completion of this project. We are working towards a final completion in the next couple months.

NOTE:

Federal Bonds are being repaid from the Whatcom County Jail Fund. Revenue additions are interest earnings.
