Project Update for October 1, 2019



Whatcom County and Strider Construction are pleased to announce that Roberts Road at Anderson Creek was opened to traffic on Tuesday, October 1. With favorable weather conditions over the past couple of weeks final project elements were completed sooner than expected.

Please note that the graveled portion of Roberts Road that was utilized as part of the detour route during construction is now closed.

Whatcom County and Strider Construction would like to thank everyone for their patience as we worked to complete this bridge replacement project.

  • Placement of new girders
  • Approach slabs
  • Roadway drainage elements

  • Bridge traffic barrier
  • Approach roadway work
  • Guardrail installation
Roberts Road is closed just north of Goshen Road during construction with a signed detour route in place. It is anticipated that Roberts Road will be re-opened to traffic in October 2019.

Project Update for July 25, 2019



Recently completed major work items include:

  • Sheet piles and steel pipe piles at north abutment
  • Concrete placement for north and south abutments
  • Girder grout pads
Upcoming major work items include:

  • Setting new girders
  • Approach slabs

Project Update for May 10, 2019

  • Site preparation work
  • Installation of erosion control elements
  • Demolition of the existing bridge

  • Driving steel sheet piles at new bridge abutments
  • Driving steel pipe piles for new bridge foundation
Roberts Road is closed just north of Goshen Road during construction with a signed detour  route in place. It is anticipated that Roberts Road will be re-opened to traffic in October 2019.

Project Update for April 17, 2019



Construction activities will begin on site on Monday, April 29. Accordingly, Roberts Road at the project site will be closed beginning Monday, April 29. At that time the signed detour route will be signed and in effect. We anticipate the closure and signed detour route continuing through October 2019.

The construction contract for this project has been awarded to Strider Construction, Inc.

Project Update for March 15, 2019



Construction of this project is anticipated to start in late April or early May of 2019 and continue thru October 2019. Roberts Road will be closed at this location during construction with a signed detour in place. 

Project Update for July 30, 2018



Due to delays in obtaining materials critical to the completion of this project prior to the onset of the upcoming winter storm and flood seasons, construction activities have been rescheduled for the summer of 2019. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this might cause. We anticipate restarting the outreach efforts for next year's construction in early 2019.

Project Update for June 22, 2018



The start of construction on this project has been delayed and is now expected to start in late July or early August with construction continuing through November of 2018. Roberts Road will be closed at the bridge during construction with a signed detour in place. We will do our best to provide as much notice prior to the start of construction and the beginning of the associate road closure.

Bridge No. 249 over Anderson Creek on Roberts Road will be replaced with a new precast pre-stressed concrete voided slab bridge. Whatcom County was awarded $1,387,170 in federal Bridge Replacement Advisory Committee (BRAC) funds to use towards this bridge replacement project. The total project cost is estimated to be $1,950,000.

Project design, permitting and real estate work is now complete and construction of this project is expected to begin in May of 2018 with construction continuing through November of 2018.

Robert Road will be closed at the bridge during construction with a signed detour in place. The detour route will utilize a currently closed portion of Robert Road between Martin Road and Central Road. This section of Roberts Road will be closed again once construction is complete.
