A public health emergency such as a natural disaster, disease outbreak, or hazardous chemical spill can quickly overwhelm resources in a community. We plan and coordinate ahead of time so that we’re ready to respond to an emergency and maintain efficient public health services for the visitors and residents of Whatcom County.

- Create a Family Communication Plan (PDF) and practice it, so everyone knows what to do - and where to meet - if you’re not all together when disaster strikes.
For Communities:
- Police, fire, medical, and other resources can become overwhelmed during a disaster. Neighborhoods that prepare by participating in the Map Your Neighborhood program are more effective in their response to a disaster and have an increased capacity to be self-sufficient for the first 72 hours after a disaster.
