Whatcom County's garbage and recycling system is privatized. Three separate companies provide garbage hauling services: Sanitary Service Company, Nooksack Valley Disposal, and Cando Recycling and Disposal.
There are no open landfills in Whatcom County, but you can haul garbage and recycling yourself to one of seven transfer station or drop-box locations:
