Summary

The intersection of Birch Bay-Lynden Road and SR-548 (Blaine Road) experiences significant congestion during peak hours, especially in the summer. Whatcom County Public Works (WCPW) plans to make improvements to the intersection to alleviate congestion and improve safety. 

This project will improve safety and traffic flow through the intersection.

  • Rebuild the intersection with a new roundabout. 
  • Construct stormwater conveyance and detention facilities. 
  • Relocate various utilities impacted by the project.

Project Benefits

  • Reduce conflict points between different roadway users. 
  • Reduce speeds at the intersection. 
  • Construct curb separations between pedestrian and vehicle lanes.
