East Smith Road Paving Project

E Smith pavement project map

This project will repave East Smith Road between Hannegan Road and Mount Baker Highway (SR 542). Some notable aspects of this project:

  • The Everson/Goshen Road and East Smith Road roundabout will be converted back into a four-way stop. Traffic accidents have increased with the current roundabout, which was too small to be a permanent solution.
  • This project will include a fish passage culvert between Sand Road and SR 542 that will close this section of E. Smith Road for several weeks in July.
    • A detour will be in place during this closure.

Project Summary

This project proposes to asphalt paving structural overlay East Smith Road from Hannegan Road to SR-542, included as part of the project will be intersection improvements at East Smith Road and Everson/Goshen Road; and a culvert replacement between Sand Road and SR-542.

The intersection improvements will convert the current temporary mini-roundabout back to a four-way stop controlled intersection. The traffic accidents have increased with the current roundabout configuration and the configuration was never sized appropriately to be a permanent solution at this intersection.

The culvert replacement will include a detour route around the section of East Smith Road between Sand Road and SR-542. This detour will last approximately two (2) weeks and will route traffic to SR-542.
