Silver Lake Park is one of Whatcom County’s oldest parks, acquired in 1966. Prior to public ownership, the property was used as a private fishing resort. Over the years there have been numerous improvements including road surfacing and minor infrastructure upgrades.
In 2019 the Maple Creek Campground was fully renovated.
Whatcom County Parks is currently developing plans to construct a new shower and restroom facility at Red Mountain Campground. This new facility is one of three new shower & restroom buildings that are being developed over the next few years.
The new shower and restroom building contains six restroom stalls, four showers, and one family friendly shower and restroom unit. A new onsite septic system will also be installed to service the new facility.
The project is currently under permit review with construction anticipated to begin in Fall 2020. The building is anticipated to be open for the 2021 camping season.
Work is limited to Red Mountain Campground and should minimize disturbance to park visitors as well as other areas of the park.
