This project will evaluate about 6,000 feet of roadside ditches and culverts along Semiahmoo Drive. The project will upgrade the drainage system as needed to reduce the frequency of standing water on the roadway and improve the drainage in this area.
The roadway culvert under Semiahmoo Drive was found to be undersized. The project will replace the existing 12-inch diameter culvert with a new 30-inch diameter pipe. The length of the new pipe is approximately 165 feet. The work includes some minor ditch re-grading.
The project is currently at the 90% design level and project construction is planned for 2022 and should take about five weeks to construct.
Erosion was observed downstream of the project after a series of storms in November 2021. The County is working with FEMA to evaluate the stability of the outfall channel and downstream slopes. The County has postponed this work until the engineers have studied the area and determined the appropriate actions to address the outfall erosion. Construction is anticipated for 2024.
