The project is currently in Phase 1, which includes:
Project re-engagement is scheduled for early 2023 after being put on a temporary hold while Whatcom County responded to historic flooding. In the meantime, the project team has been busy performing preliminary engineering analysis to help define site constraints and develop bridge alternatives. Be on the lookout for upcoming engagement opportunities, and make sure to sign up for project updates (directions below).
A competitive grant opportunity for federal funding was pursued earlier this year. The team was successful in its grant application and was awarded federal funding for the replacement bridge project.

We want your help and input as we design what the next bridge will look like. Information gathered from the public will help us develop alternative bridge designs as we move forward. Public participation will come from virtual open house-style events and an online survey.
Two virtual open houses are planned to provide opportunities for public input on bridge features, size, aesthetics, traffic modifications, and temporary construction impacts.
