Volunteers play and important role in maintaining and support Whatcom County Parks. Explore our volunteer opportunities below and find out how you can get involved.

Garden Volunteer

The Fragrance Gardens are largely maintained by the dedication of volunteers passionate about gardening. Duties include weeding, thinning, heading back annuals and perennials, transplanting, and general garden cleanup.

Animal Care

The farm animals are part of what makes Hovander Homestead Park so special. Volunteers assist with feeding and caring for the animals, as well as cleaning the enclosures and answering public inquiries.

Historical Docent

Do you love history and interacting with the public? Our docents lead historical home tours at the Roeder Home and Hovander House.

Trail Steward

Do you love to hike? Give back to your community while enjoying your favorite trail systems. Duties include general trail cleanup, answering public inquiries, and reporting trail issues such as slides or down trees to Park Staff.

Range Volunteer

The Plantation Rifle Range has opportunities to provide support and assistance to the Range Officer in operating the shooting ranges including calling cease fires, answering technical questions on firearms, cleaning facilities, grounds maintenance, and answering public inquiries. Experience with firearms, including hunting, target shooting, and recreational shooting is highly desirable. 

Senior Center Support

Senior Center volunteers assist senior center staff with meal distribution support and program setup at the senior centers in Everson, Point Roberts, Sumas, and Welcome.
