Whatcom County Compound Flood Vulnerability Assessment

The 2023 Whatcom County Compound Flood Vulnerability Assessment was completed to identify coastal and lower Nooksack River areas that may be most vulnerable to sea-level rise and increased rainfall. The assessment includes an exposure analysis for the entire county and a vulnerability analysis on two focus areas: Sandy Point and Birch Bay. Coastal storm modeling was used with a range of sea level rise projections to map hazard zones. These hazard zones can be viewed on the Draft Sea Level Rise Compound Flooding Web Mapping Application.

Whatcom County held three public meetings to share the vulnerability and risk assessment results and receive community feedback on priorities.
