Jail Planning Task Force

On April 26, 2011, the Whatcom County Council approved a resolution establishing a Jail Planning Task Force (JPTF). The JPTF was comprised of local citizens, County Administration, Sheriff's Office and Health Department staff. Their collaboration and hard work resulted in recommendations for tangible "next steps" in the development of the new jail.

Meeting
The Jail Planning Task Force concluded their initial meetings in 2012 and are currently on hiatus.

Members
There are 12 members of the Jail Planning Task Force.

Specifications
No fewer than 6 citizens with varying expertise in architecture, commercial real estate, construction of commercial projects, accounting, finance and other areas that might bring value to the process. It will also include 1 representative or designee from the Sheriff's Office, Prosecutor's Office, Police Chief's Association, the County Executive Office, county mental health services and a Whatcom County Sheriff's Office corrections deputy.

Purpose
The Jail Planning Task Force was created to provide advice and recommendations to the County Executive and the County Council regarding the appropriate size and location of new jail facilities. It shall be an ad-hoc subcommittee of the Law and Justice Council and shall report to and gather input from the public.
