Lighthouse Marine Park's boardwalk was constructed in the early 1970's. This well-loved park feature has had a lot of use and required many repairs over the last several decades. Park staff is currently working on a renovation plan that will address the structural repairs and keep the aesthetic appeal. Additional improvements will include a new play area.
Whatcom County Parks and Recreation acquired this property in 2008 with the assistance of The Nature Conservancy and Whatcom Land Trust. The park, located in Point Roberts, has more than 275 acres with 1.4 miles of saltwater shoreline along Boundary Bay. Park improvements included a trailhead with parking and restrooms, trails through forested uplands, viewpoints and shoreline access. .

The park had over 60,000 visitors last year and the 30 year old playground is a very popular amenity with children. The new playground will have improved accessibility and feature a modern playground structure that blends well with the natural lakeside setting.
