If you are without power after the December 20 windstorm, follow these precautions to keep you and your loved ones healthy.

• Never use generators or grills inside or outside when they are less than 20 feet from windows, doors, or vents. They can release carbon monoxide (CO). CO is an odorless, colorless gas that can make you pass out or kill you. Learn more about the dangers of CO poisoning at https://www.cdc.gov/co/faqs.htm.
• Check food to make sure it’s safe to eat. Foods that haven’t been kept cool enough can make you sick. When in doubt, throw it out! • Check for unsafe drinking water. Power loss could cause backflows or other problems. You should always check for boil water or do not drink alerts from your water service provider.
