[ARCHIVED] Seeking Severe Weather Shelter Partners

We are seeking partner organizations who will consider providing short-term, overnight shelter services during severe weather this coming winter. Services include shelter space, personnel to run shelters, or both if the capability exists. Shelters will open on days and nights when certain weather condtion thresholds are met and extra capacity is needed, and they are not expected to run continuously throughout the winter months.

Whatcom County is able to offer support for partners interested in operating a severe weather shelter, including:

  • Connecting organizations to trained individuals who can act as volunteer leads during the nights shelters are open.
  • Financial assistance to purchase bottled water and packaged snacks.
  • Custodial support.

Find more details in this invitation letter and the list of guiding assumptions for shelter operations.

To sign up as a partner organization or ask more questions, contact Ann Beck, Human Services Supervisor at [email protected].
