Every paved county road on Lummi Island is planned for chip seal road maintenance starting around July 6. The exact start date may change due to weather and other factors. We will keep you updated through this communication tool as more information becomes available.
Two large trucks will be given priority loading several times per day. This will allow the project to be completed faster, and in the most efficient way possible. Flaggers will be on site to ensure safe loading and unloading anytime equipment is being transported.
The ferry will remain on its current COVID-19 schedule, and continue to make additional trips to alleviate traffic buildup. If have a time-sensitive schedule, we recommend getting in line early or crossing on one of our early morning trips.
Loose gravel or chip sealant could damage vehicles left near roadways. Don’t park within two feet of the edge of road pavement during construction, including places like the grange hall, post office, Willow’s Inn, or Frank’s Beach.
We use a state-approved, water-based binder that includes elements to help the rock chips stick into the road and reduces the amount of loose rock on roadways. Warm, dry weather allows the binding and drying process to happen faster. Cool weather slows the process.
