Whatcom County Public Works and its consultant, Pacific Survey and Engineering, Inc., are working towards a 100% design document. This will include technical components of the roadway widening, stormwater and water quality system design, street lighting, relocation of existing utilities, and environmental permitting.
The project will include a pedestrian crossing near the Port of Bellingham’s Marine Drive Trail parking lot entrance to improve safety for pedestrians and bicycles. The crosswalk will have a push-button crosswalk light known as a Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacon (RRFB) to increase driver awareness when pedestrians will cross the street.
Visit the project website for more background on this project, updated schedule details, and a new 90% design exhibit.
