The County Auditor seeks applicants to write the voter pamphlet against statements and rebuttals for local school district ballot measures. Bellingham, Blaine, Lynden, Meridian, and Mt. Baker school districts all have proposed levies to be voted on at the February 9, 2016 Special Election.
The districts have identified individuals to write the arguments for the propositions. The Auditor is looking for one or more people in each school district to write the against arguments, and the rebuttals to the for statements.
A list of the Propositions follows:
• Bellingham School District, Proposition No. 2016-1, Replacement Educational Support and Operations Levy. This proposition authorizes the district to levy excess taxes to replace an expiring levy, on all taxable property within the district, to support the district’s educational operations.
• Blaine School District, Proposition No. 2016-1, Replacement Maintenance and Operations Levy. This proposition authorizes the District to levy excess taxes, to replace an expiring levy, on all taxable property within the District, to support the District’s educational maintenance and daily operations, including teachers, staff, classroom materials, and textbooks.
• Bellingham School District, Proposition No. 2016-2, Replacement Technology Capital Projects Levy. This proposition authorizes acquiring and applying technology, equipment, training, and other costs associated with district instruction and operations, and authorizes excess levies for such purposes on all taxable property within the district.
• Lynden School District, Proposition No. 2016-1, Replacement Educational Maintenance and Operations Levy. This proposition authorizes the District to levy excess taxes, to replace an expiring levy, on all taxable property within the District, to support the District’s educational maintenance and operations.
• Meridian School District, Proposition No. 2016-1, Replacement Educational Maintenance and Operations Levy. This proposition authorizes the District to levy excess taxes, to replace an expiring levy, on all taxable property within the District, to support the District’s educational maintenance and operations.
• Mt. Baker School District, Proposition No. 2016-1, Replacement Educational Programs and Operations Levy. This proposition authorizes the District to Levy excess taxes, to replace an expiring levy, on all taxable property within the District, to support the District’s educational programs and daily operations, including teachers, staff, classroom materials, and textbooks.
When appointed, committees must submit their initial statements to the County Auditor by Wednesday, December 16. The rebuttal statements are due to the Auditor by Monday, December 21.
