Active Incidents
The U.S. and Canada have extended an order closing their shared border to nonessential traffic until at least February 21, 2021. This includes both vehicular and boating between the countries.
The “Proclamation of Emergency” signed by the Whatcom County Executive concerning COVID-19 remains in effect. Information about Whatcom County’s response to COVID-19 is available at the Joint Information Center’s COVID-19 website.
Advisories, Watches and Warnings
A “Small Craft Advisory is in effect from noon today until 10:00 tomorrow morning for west winds 15-25 knots.

Whatcom County Inland Weather
Our weather will continue to improve as the day goes on. There could be a stray shower and clouds will remain, but the snow is over for the time-being. Tomorrow will be mostly sunny. Temperatures this week will climb to the mid-40s while lows will drop to the low to mid-30s in the lower areas of the county. Wind will be from the west and the Blaine area could see gusts to 25mph while the middle or southern part of the county will see wind around 10mph. Rain or a rain/snow mixture at times appears to be starting up again on Thursday and lasting into Saturday. If you’re traveling towards Newhalem Thursday or Thursday night, the forecast is for some moderate snow accumulations. Finally, while low temperatures remain above freezing, it can’t be emphasized enough there could be pockets of colder air in places and higher elevations are also a little colder and freezing could occur. Drive with caution.
Rivers and Streams
The Nooksack River’s three forks are all running level at this time and will remain at current levels for the next week. However, about a week from now we’ll see the levels come up rather quickly, still below flood level, but definitely noticeable.

For the Strait and Inland Coastal Waters off Whatcom County look for 15-25 knot west winds today and tonight switching to the south tomorrow and then the east tomorrow night.
