Active Incidents
The U.S. and Canada have extended an order closing their shared border to nonessential traffic until at least February 21, 2021. This includes both vehicular and boating between the countries.
The “Proclamation of Emergency” signed by the Whatcom County Executive concerning COVID-19 remains in effect. Information about Whatcom County’s response to COVID-19 is available at the Joint Information Center’s COVID-19 website.

SR-20 remains closed in both directions at MP 120 due to a snow slide. WSDOT crews will be evaluating the situation and an update will be posted on the WSDOT website.

Whatcom County Inland Weather
Some breaks in the clouds will let the sun shine through from time to time and temperatures are going to tease us with a 50-degree reading. There is a chance for a shower or two to work its way through the area and we can expect a south wind in the 10mph range with a gust once in awhile to 20 mph. The chance for a shower will continue through tonight and then tomorrow will be mostly cloudy. Temperatures overnight will get down to the upper 30s and tomorrow will be a little cooler – 47 degree or so. Tomorrow night will drop to the mid-30s. Point Roberts, Blaine, and Sumas are going to see some sun today but clouds are going to be hanging around for the next several days at least and with those clouds comes the chance for a shower from time to time. The wind will be much less than last week with west winds topping out at 15 mph or less and variable. The foothills will be much like the northern part of the county, you may see the sun peek through but you’re just as likely to see showers and light winds. Newhalem will see cooler temeperatures with highs on the low end of the mid-40s. Southwest winds will be around 10mph.
Rivers and Streams
As we enter next week, we’ll see some ebb and flow periods for all forks of the Nooksack River. None of them are going to cause any flood concerns but if you’re on or near the river, you might notice a sand bar appear and disappear due to the rainy periods.
Whatcom County Coastal Weather
All forks of the Nooksack River will remain right about where they are until we get to the weekend, when some rain is going to cause a little bit of an increase in river level and river flow. Unless you are on the river or near it each day, you probably won’t recognize the changes.
