SR-20 remains closed at MP 120 due to a snow slide over the weekend. Today is almost a carbon copy of yesterday. Temperatures in the mid-40s; lows in the mid-30s with south winds around 10mph. There could be a shower in Maple Falls and Newhalem early.

Active Incidents
The U.S. and Canada have extended an order closing their shared border to nonessential traffic until at least February 21, 2021. This includes both vehicular and boating between the countries.
The “Proclamation of Emergency” signed by the Whatcom County Executive concerning COVID-19 remains in effect. Information about Whatcom County’s response to COVID-19 is available at the Joint Information Center’s COVID-19 website.
Advisories, Watches and Warnings
SR-20 remains closed in both directions at MP 120 due to a snow slide over the weekend. Washington State Department of Transportation crews will be removing the slide when conditions are safe. Watch for updates on the Washington State Department of Transportation website.
Weather Around Whatcom County
Whatcom County Inland Weather
While the skies may be mostly cloudy over the next couple of days, the temperature will rise into the mid-40s while the lows drop to mid to upper 30s. The wind will be from a southerly direction generally around 10 mph or less. Sumas could see the wind out of the east/northeast but it will still be around 10 mph or so. The highs in Sumas tomorrow may reach 50 degrees or even a degree or two higher. Maple Falls may see a shower or two this morning; otherwise, it will be mostly cloudy. Newhalem will be a little cooler today with the high around 36 and the low tonight in the upper 20s. There is definitely a frost concern and the chance of any water on the roads freezing is real as well. Once we get to Thursday, a chance for rain will settle in across the county and it looks to continue into the weekend so don’t put the umbrellas away yet. Higher elevations are likely to see some snow from this weather system as well.
Rivers and Streams
The Nooksack River will see ever so slight a bump from the rain starting on Thursday. Chances are we won’t even notice it. But if you have a favorite sand bar that you like to watch or sit on at this time of the year, the river might rise just enough to make you pack up and go home for the day.
Whatcom County Coastal Weather
For the Strait and Inland Coastal Waters off Whatcom County, look for west winds today at 5-15 knots switching to the southeast 5-15 knots and staying there thru Thursday before increasing to possibly Small Craft Advisory levels.
