Active Incidents
The U.S. and Canada have extended an order closing their shared border to nonessential traffic until at least March 21, 2021. This includes both vehicular and boating between the countries.
The “Proclamation of Emergency” signed by the Whatcom County Executive concerning COVID-19 remains in effect. Information about Whatcom County’s response to COVID-19 is available at the Joint Information Center’s COVID-19 website.
On March 11th, Governor Inslee announced all of Washington will advance to Phase 3 of the Healthy Washington Roadmap to Recovery Plan beginning March 22nd. See the WA State Coronavirus Response website for impacts or any caveats.

Weather Around Whatcom County
Whatcom County Inland Weather
The weather around Whatcom County will once again include plenty of sun although there could be a few more clouds in the Point Roberts area. Highs will reach the low 50s for most areas but Newhalem will only get to 44 degrees. Winds will be on the lighter side with Sumas see a little breeze from the east/northeast at 5-8 mph. All other locations should be calm to just a small gust from time to time. Tonight will be partly cloudy with lows dropping to the low 30s with some frost in the foothills and higher elevations. Drive cautiously. For tomorrow, sun will be plentiful once again with high temperatures a few degrees higher than today. Any breeze should remain relatively light. Things will start to cloud up later in the day on Saturday and there will be a chance for rain Sunday and Sunday night. Temperatures will remain about the same. Newhalem could see some rain/snow mixtures from time to time due to the elevation there. Next week will be a few degrees cooler, nothing dramatic, and the sun will visible once again. One additional note. While winds are projected to be light into Sunday in most of Whatcom light as currently predicted.
Rivers and Streams
The Nooksack River level is still predicted to rise about 6-12 inches from the rain Sunday but chances are it will go completely unnoticed unless you have plans on or near the river.
Whatcom County Coastal Weather
For the Strait and Inland Coastal Waters off Whatcom County, the wind will be from the southeast for the next 36 hours or so at 15 nots or less. Saturday night will see winds begin to increase and will rise to 25-35 knots after midnight. That velocity usually ends in a gale warning. Those stronger winds are supposed to last into Sunday afternoon before dropping back to Small Craft Advisory levels. No watch or warning is posted yet, but stay tuned to marine weather for updates concerning the wind.
