Inland Weather

The region remains locked in a summer-like weather pattern Tuesday and Wednesday with no weather concerns. We'll continue to see mostly clear/sunny skies as well. Temperatures look fairly similar both days although still well above average for April. Expect winds to remain fairly light.  Overall the rest of the work week is looking mostly dry however all good things must come to an end... A weather disturbance grazes the region Thursday and Friday, and while it should remain mostly dry, a stray shower during this period can't be ruled out. Increased cloud cover and SW flow leads to cooler temperatures as well. Friday night into Saturday morning a wet weather disturbance arrives from the west bringing the dry streak to an abrupt end. Spring-like active weather continues the rest of the weekend into the following week.

Rivers and Streams

Flows within the rivers and streams of Whatcom County are normal with no likelihood of flooding. 

Whatcom County Coastal Weather

Onshore flow will persist through the week due to high pressure over the NE Pacific.  Highest wind and waves will be found over the outer Coastal Waters and the Strait of Juan de Fuca.    WIND:   Today:  NW wind 10-20 knots easing to 10 knots in teh afternoon; wind waves 1'-3'.  Tonight:  W wind 5-15 knots becoming 10-20 knots after midnight; wind waves 1'-3'.   Tomorrow:  NW wind 10-20 knots becoming 5-15 knots in the afternoon; wind waves 1'-3'.  Tomorrow Night:  W wind 10-20 knots rising to 15-25 knots after midnight; wind waves 1'-3' building to 2'-4' after midnight. Look for a "Small Craft Advisory" to be issued for this period.

April Is Financial Preparedness Month

Whatcom County residents at all income levels have experienced the challenges of rebuilding their lives after a disaster or other emergency. In these stressful times, having access to personal financial, insurance, medical and other records is crucial for starting the recovery process quickly and efficiently.

1. Gather financial and critical personal, household and medical information.
2. Consider saving money in an emergency savings account that could be used in any crisis. Keep a small amount of cash at home in a safe place. It is important to have small bills on hand because ATMs and credit cards may not work during a disaster when you need to purchase necessary supplies, fuel or food.
3. Obtain property (homeowners or renters), health and life insurance if you do not have them. Not all insurance policies are the same. Review your policy to make sure the amount and types of coverage you have meets the requirements for all possible hazards. Homeowners insurance does not typically cover flooding, so you may need to purchase flood insurance from the National Flood Insurance Program.
