South Whatcom Fire Authority has submitted a resolution for the April 26 Special Election ballot proposing authorization to acquire and equip three new fire engines to be financed by the issuance of not more than $1,960,000.00 of general obligation bonds to be repaid by the annual levy of excess property taxes. The District has appointed a “For” committee who will submit a statement in favor of the proposition for the Whatcom County Local Voters’ Pamphlet. They have not been able to identify an “Against” Committee.
The Auditor is required to make an effort to identify interested individuals and appoint them to an “Against” committee who will submit a statement for the voters’ pamphlet recommending rejection of the proposition. There is a short window of time to allow for this. Persons interested in submitting a statement against the proposition should contact Debbie Adelstein, County Auditor, at (360) 778-5105, as soon as possible. A statement against must be submitted by Friday, March 4, 2016.
