The Whatcom Chief’s 2021 dry dock outage will be Sept. 11-Oct. 4. Additional details about the 2021 dry dock, including any applicable COVID-19 protocols, will be published closer to the out-of-service dates. A passenger-only ferry will provide transportation to and from the island while the Whatcom Chief is out of service. Shuttle service on the island will also be provided.

Terminal work this year will focus on Gooseberry Point. The structure will be painted and the underside of the transfer span will be sandblasted. Sandblasting will be loud and last for about two weeks. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this noisy work. This work should not delay the passenger-only ferry.

Some of the boat work scheduled during this dry dock outage includes fuel tank and hull steel replacement, painting, sandblasting, and mechanical work. The county also publishes a Dry Dock Webpage that will be updated as more information becomes available.
