[ARCHIVED] Whatcom County COVID-19 Vaccine Update for 8/3/21

Vaccine Data

As of August 1, 56% of all Whatcom residents are fully vaccinated, and 61.2% have gotten at least one dose. Out of everyone who’s currently eligible, including adolescents and teens aged 12-17, 70% have gotten at least one dose!

It’s great that we’ve gotten 7 out of 10 eligible Whatcom County residents vaccinated, but there’s a flip side to this coin: about 59,000 eligible residents are still unvaccinated.

Some residents can’t be vaccinated even if they want to, because they’re too young or have a medical condition (such as an allergy) that prevents them from getting vaccinated. And some residents who have been vaccinated may not get the full benefits of immunity due to age or a compromised immune system. That’s why it’s important for everyone who can get vaccinated to get vaccinated. Until more eligible people get vaccinated, our community is not fully protected from COVID-19 and its more transmissible variants.

Vaccinated and Unvaccinated Case and Hospitalization Data Updates Coming Soon

We’ll be sharing weekly case and hospitalization data updates broken down by vaccinated and unvaccinated within the month. By sharing this data, we hope to encourage more people to get vaccinated.

In the meantime, we can tell you that the data is clear: vaccines work. They’ll keep you out of the hospital. The overwhelming majority of people currently hospitalized for COVID-19 are unvaccinated.

We do have local case and hospitalization data from February through June of this year that’s ready to share. You can view it here
