[ARCHIVED] County Forced to Tow Four Vehicles from Area Marked No Parking on Gooseberry Point

Thanks to everyone who followed our parking maps and signage on where to park - and where not to park - vehicles on the mainland during dry dock. As we mentioned in our email on Aug. 25 and marked in our parking maps, and talked about on our dry dock webpage, some of the parking spaces are only available starting on Sept. 12. We also put up “no parking” signs in these spaces so anyone who didn’t get our messages would still know about the no parking areas. Unfortunately, our no parking signs and caution tape were moved and four vehicles parked in an area we needed in order to set up for the passenger ferry. We were forced to tow those cars in order to set up the passenger gangways, ramps, and floats so that we can provide you with passenger ferry service.

We never like to tow cars. We do not enjoy this. The gangways are long and the space can be tight. We only limit parking in order to get the equipment safely in place and ensure the passenger ferry service you depend on is available. If your vehicle was parked in the spots labeled “Open 9-12 to 10-3” on this Gooseberry Point Parking Map, we are sorry to say that your car was towed in order to make sure passenger ferry service is available to everyone. You can call Heston Hauling at 360-312-8697 to arrange for pickup.

Despite the delays caused by the towing process, we do expect to begin passenger ferry service on schedule at 4 pm. We will start dry dock repairs of the docks starting tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 12. We ask that everyone please be patient and supportive of the people who are doing this important work to maintain your docks and ferry infrastructure.
