Whatcom County Awarded $1.94 Million in Federal Highway Funding for Two Birch Bay Area Projects

Federal funding of approximately $1.94 million has been awarded to Whatcom County Public Works to support two different road projects in the Birch Bay area. 

  • The Birch Bay – Lynden Road and Blaine Road Intersection Improvements Project was awarded
     $1 million in federal funds. The funds will help pay for construction of a roundabout at this intersection. This project is in the design phase, and the department will ask for public comment on the design later this winter. Construction is scheduled for 2024.
  • The Birch Bay – Lynden Road and Kickerville Road Intersection Improvement Project was awarded $940,000 in federal funds. The funds will help pay for the design and construction of left turn lanes and lighting at the intersection. Project design will begin soon and construction is scheduled for 2026.
