[ARCHIVED] Whatcom County Public Works Flood Response Update

Update on the Whatcom County Public Works flood response on 11/15/21 @ 9:35AM

  • Call 911 for flood-related emergencies.
  • To report non-emergency impacts please leave a message at (360) 788-5311.
  • County roads closed due to storm flooding are being posted at this link.
  • DO NOT ignore road closure signs. Drivers have continued to ignore road closed signs, cars have been stranded/stuck in floodwaters, and drivers have required rescue. This stretches the capacity of our first responders at a critical time.
  • Additional roads will be closed throughout the day as rain and floodwater continues to impact the region.
  • At this time Everson, Sumas, Deming and Maple Falls are all isolated due to flooded roads.
  • Anyone living in known flood areas or low lying areas should be prepared to shelter in place unless there is a life safety issue.
  • Sandbags and sand are available at local fire stations and from hardware storms. An emergency has been declared, meaning sand and sandbags are available from fire stations. View the list of sandbag locations
  • Stay home if you can.
  • Heavy rain during the Monday morning and evening commutes will impact visibility, driving times, response times, and unfortunately the potential for vehicle accidents.
  • Whatcom County Public Works staff have been working 24/7 in rotating shifts since Sunday afternoon. Our staff are doing the best they can with limited resources and must prioritize life/safety issues, including road closures. Remember, if you have a flood emergency, call 911. We work closely with 911 dispatch. DO NOT call 911 for non-emergencies.
