[ARCHIVED] Extreme Cold Weather Forces Adaptive COVID-19 Test Scheduling

Due to various challenges related to the extreme cold weather, we’ve had to adjust the hours at the COVID-19 testing site we operate jointly with Northwest Laboratory:

  • The site will operate from 3 - 6 p.m. today, Dec. 29. Only people with an existing appointment during this time period should come to the site. 
    • Today’s appointments for travel testing are canceled and those people will need to find alternate testing.
  • Due to the weather forecast, all appointments for Thursday, Dec. 30 between 7 - 10 a.m. are canceled. The site is currently expected to be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • According to Northwest Laboratory, they will do their best to reschedule symptomatic/close contact patients throughout the week.

These hours are subject to change, depending on weather conditions and staffing.

The next available appointments are currently 6 to 7 days out, with further weather-related delays a possibility. We’re experiencing high call volumes, so expect long wait times if you call us to schedule a testing appointment. Given staffing shortages, road and weather conditions, the limited supply of rapid at-home tests and a surge in cases, we recommend you:

  • Stay home, off the roads. 
  • Assume you have COVID-19 if you experience any common symptoms, like fever, cough, or shortness of breath, and isolate at home for five days. On day 5, if your symptoms have resolved, you may end isolation, but continue to wear a mask around other people (even at home) for another five days.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any emergency warning signs of COVID-19:
    • Trouble breathing.
    • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest.
    • Confusion.
    • Bluish lips or face.
    • This list is not all-inclusive. Any other symptoms that are severe or concerning warrant immediate medical attention.

COVID-19 testing operations will continue to be challenging for every provider right now. Please expect delays related to high demand and a short supply of tests. Please be patient with staff, both those who are scheduling appointments and those who are at the testing site. They are doing their best in difficult circumstances.
