[ARCHIVED] Public Works Department Prepares for 2022 Road Shoulder Herbicide Program

The 2021 Whatcom County Road Shoulder Herbicide Program will begin soon. Approximately 250 miles of roads are normally scheduled for seasonal treatment. Lawns and yard areas may have a minimum 12” wide strip treated to aid in drainage and minimize pavement damage.

Property owners can choose to take responsibility for maintaining the right-of-way abutting their property and avoid County herbicide spraying. To opt-out, property owners should call Maintenance and Operations at 360-778-6400 to request a copy of the required owner maintenance agreement and arrange to pick up “Owner Will Maintain” signs to put on the property. This is a free service.

More information is available on the Vegetation Management Program Webpage.

Please contact the Maintenance and Operations Division at 360-778-6400 if you have any questions regarding this work.
