[ARCHIVED] So, what do you do when your at-home COVID-19 test is positive?

Report your positive home test by calling the Washington State Department of Health at 1-800-525-0127. This hotline is staffed seven days a week. Mondays 6 am - 10 pm and Tuesdays through Sundays 6 am - 6 pm.

Isolate yourself away from others, including other people you live with. Stay home from work or school. The CDC has some great information on isolation and quarantine, along with an isolation and quarantine calculator link at the top of the page

Tell your close contacts that they have been exposed to COVID-19. A close contact is anyone who’s been within 6 feet of you for 15 minutes or longer. Remember that you can be contagious two days before you show any symptoms. If you don’t have symptoms, consider your contagious period to start two days before your positive test.

Letting your close contacts know they have been exposed to COVID-19 helps protect the community and limit the spread of the virus. Find out what to do if you are a close contact.

Remember that at-home tests may not detect very small amounts of virus. They provide the best results when used while you're experiencing symptoms or about 5 days after you’ve been exposed to COVID-19. If you choose to use an at-home COVID-19 test, make sure to carefully follow the instructions on the test kit.

More details on at-home tests can be found on our website.
