[ARCHIVED] Dry Dock Update from the Senior Master, Rich Hudson

Dry Dock Update from the Senior Master, Rich Hudson

Repairs and maintenance of the Whatcom Chief are ongoing and are on schedule. At this time, we expect the Whatcom Chief to return to service Saturday, May 21st about 4 p.m.

Below are some highlights from this year’s maintenance period:

-The US Coast Guard’s mandated replacement of our four midship deck hatches are complete and have passed the US Coast Guard's inspections.

-The main engines and generator sets have been tuned up per the manufacturer’s specifications.  The work was completed by marine technicians from Tri County Marine.

-The steering gear electrical modifications are ongoing. These recommended modifications paired with preventative maintenance should  provide a higher level of reliability in the future.

-In commemoration of 60 years of service, our shipyard ferry crew have added a little flair to our paint scheme.

Please check out https://www.whatcomcounty.us/550/Annual-Dry-Dock for a short slideshow of pictures taken at the shipyard.

Looking forward to a safe transit home on Saturday!

Respectfully,

Rich Hudson
