Flood Hazard Mitigation Assistance Grants Update

FEMA elevation graphic

The November 2021 floods caused significant property damage throughout our community. Our River and Flood Division has been working with willing landowners to seek FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) funding to reduce the risk of future flood damage to structures in flood-prone areas.

Over 800 property owners with damages from the November 2021 floods have been invited to respond with a notice of voluntary interest in this program. Our River and Flood Division has been reviewing the properties of all owners who responded to evaluate property eligibility and prepare grant applications. Grant applications were submitted this April and August for approximately $27 million in assistance to 70 properties. FEMA is now reviewing the first grant application, and this first funding decision is expected in early 2023.

For more information on these grant applications and anticipated timeline, visit our website.
