A special three-day filing period will be held at the Whatcom County Auditor’s Office from August 10 – August 12, 2016. The special filing period will be for five commissioners of the proposed Columbia Valley Park and Recreation District.
The formation of the park district will go before voters on the November 8 General Election ballot. The election of five commissioners will also be on the ballot. If the park district is approved, the initial terms of office for three of the commissioner positions will be three-year terms and two positions will serve a one-year term. If voters do not approve the formation of the park district, the election of the five commissioners will be voided.
Citizens who qualify to run for these positions are encouraged to apply. Declaration of Candidacy forms are available at the Whatcom County Auditor’s Office or online.
Declarations may be filed by mail or in person and must be received in the Auditor’s Office, 311 Grand Avenue, Suite 103, Bellingham, no later than 4:30 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2016. Filings received after the deadline are invalid and will be returned to the applicant, irrespective of postmark.
