[ARCHIVED] Seeking Committee Members

The Whatcom County Auditor’s Office, Election Division, is seeking volunteers to write a statement to appear in the November 7, 2023 General Election Local Voters’ Pamphlet for the following ballot measures:

  • Fire Protection District 5 – Proposition 2023-03, Property Tax Levy for Fire Protection and Emergency Medical Services, statement against needed.
  • Fire Protection District 14 – Proposition 2023-05, Restoring Property Tax Levy, statement against needed.
  • Point Roberts Park and Recreation District 1 – Proposition 2023-06, Regular Property Tax Levies, statement for and against are needed.

According to Revised Code of Washington 29A.32.280, districts proposing the measures are responsible for appointing committees to write arguments for and against each measure. These districts have not appointed all committees to write arguments on the measures, so the County Auditor is seeking individuals to serve on those committees.

The General Election Local Voters’ Pamphlet includes official ballot titles, explanatory statements, statements for and against, and rebuttals.

Committee members are required to be residents of the district in order to draft arguments and at least one person must be willing to be named in the voters’ pamphlet as a member of the committee.

Interested parties should contact the Elections Division by email, [email protected], or call (360) 778-5102 no later than 4:00 pm on August 8. Statements will be due by 4:30 pm on August 14, 2023.
