Crews working on behalf of Whatcom County Public Works will begin construction work on Birch Bay Drive on Monday, August 28. Work will occur between 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday-Friday and is anticipated for three weeks. (No work on Labor Day.) Repairs to a damaged outfall in Birch Bay will also be completed during this timeframe, taking advantage of the low tides.
The roadway work on Birch Bay Drive will include sidewalks, curb & gutter, crosswalks, signs, and short landscaping walls. This work will involve intermittent shoulder closures and partial lane closures. If lane closures are required, signage and flaggers will be present to direct traffic. Please slow down and drive carefully in work zones.
The grinding and paving work associated with this project has been postponed until spring. Paving work is weather-dependent and subject to change. We will provide additional updates during this late summer work and again before the grinding and paving work next year.
