It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael Bobbink, Whatcom County’s Hearing Examiner.

Mr. Bobbink began his career with the County in 1984 as a part-time Deputy Hearing Examiner before taking on the role in full in 1996. Over the years, he also provided hearing examiner services to Island County as well as the cities of Ferndale and Oak Harbor. In addition to serving as Hearing Examiner, Mr. Bobbink also had more than 25 years of experience as a Municipal Court Judge for the cities of Blaine, Everson-Nooksack, and Sumas.

Mr. Bobbink made an indelible mark on the many staff members and applicants he interacted with over the years, and his tenure with the County has added immeasurable value to our community. We are forever grateful for him and the service he provided.
