Whatcom County Health Department and Whatcom Unified Command to Pilot Low-Barrier COVID-19 Testing Facility
BELLINGHAM, WA – Whatcom County Health Department (WCHD) and Whatcom Unified Command (WUC) are partnering with Northwest Laboratory and the City of Bellingham to increase access to COVID-19 testing in Whatcom County. On Friday and Saturday, July 10 and 11, they will pilot a new, low-barrier, drive-through testing facility at the Civic Field Athletic Complex in Bellingham.
“Opening an additional, low-barrier, drive-through testing facility in Whatcom County will create new capacity to test individuals for COVID-19. This model will also make it easier for people to access testing without the need for a referral from their healthcare provider,” said WCHD Director Erika Lautenbach.
This testing facility will be able to serve individuals with or without insurance. The expanded testing access comes at a time when case counts are again increasing in Whatcom County and across Washington State. All residents are urged to observe physical distancing of at least six- feet between one another, to wash their hands frequently, to wear face coverings in public spaces, and to seek testing immediately following any signs of illness.
More details about the testing site will be provided as information becomes available.
