Whatcom County Leaders Express Confidence in Election Integrity and Call for Civility
The Whatcom County Auditor, Sheriff and Executive issued a joint statement on election integrity in response to concerns raised about the potential for disruptions and even violence during or after the election.
"Please be assured that all reasonable and prudent measures have been taken to anticipate, prevent and prepare for attempts to undermine the integrity of the election process or incite violence. We are closely monitoring the situation and are well prepared to respond to any challenge to election security or public safety," the statement says.
They also called for civility ahead of the election. "It is important to recognize that our county, state and nation have been facing extraordinary challenges—a pandemic, economic hardship, social unrest and more—and public anxiety is high. The best antidote to this anxiety is to treat our fellow community members with respect and kindness."
