Get Vaccinated Soon to Win a New Truck
Community-led Drawing Aims to Drive Up Whatcom County Vaccination Rates
BELLINGHAM, WA -- Whatcom County residents who get their first COVID-19 vaccine shot between June 1 and July 31 may win a vehicle of their choice worth up to $60,000.
The Chuckanut Health Foundation, in collaboration with the Bellingham Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Whatcom County Health Department, is holding a drawing to encourage COVID-19 vaccination. Registration for the drawing will begin June 15, and the winner will be awarded a credit of up to $60,000 to purchase a vehicle of their choice from participating auto dealers.
Dr. Chao-ying Wu, a Family Care Network physician and Chuckanut Health Foundation board member, initiated this community-driven project to help drive up our community’s vaccination rates and steer Whatcom County closer towards the end of the pandemic.
“When our community comes together in support of each other, great things can happen,” said Dr. Wu. “I hope this contest will be one more good reason to go ahead and get this job done. It’s been a long and hard trip, and we are so close to wrapping this up. A really high vaccination rate means that our community can come out of the pandemic strong and ready to thrive again.”
The drawing is open to any resident of Whatcom County aged 18 or older who initiates vaccination between June 1 and July 31, but the prize will only be awarded after proof of full vaccination is provided by the winner. Proof of vaccination is not required to enter the drawing, and participants aren’t required to finish vaccination before the date of the drawing. Residents are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second shot of Moderna or Pfizer, or 2 weeks after their first and only Johnson & Johnson shot.
Guy Occhiogrosso, president and CEO of the Bellingham Regional Chamber of Commerce, believes that residents who help Whatcom County recover from the pandemic by getting vaccinated deserve to be rewarded.
"Vaccinations allow our business community to get back to full capacity from both a workforce and consumer perspective,” said Occhiogrosso. “All of us are ready for the pandemic to be over and to get back to normal routines again; an increased vaccination rate is one of the best ways for that to happen. We feel this is a unique way to reward a local resident and support a local vehicle dealership."
