Whatcom Community Food Assessment 2021 Final Update Published
BELLINGHAM, WA-- After receiving and implementing feedback from the public, the Whatcom County Food System Committee has published the 2021 Community Food Assessment (CFA).
This snapshot of how food is produced, transported and consumed throughout Whatcom County is an essential tool to crafting a meaningful and effective food system plan. This update builds on the work of previous CFAs, which can be found on the Food System Committee website. The 2021 CFA is based on over 50 interviews with local farmers, farmworkers, community health professionals, natural resource experts and more and was finalized on December 1, 2021.
“We are grateful to all who leant their expertise to this update,” said Committee Chair Riley Sweeney. “Now we are excited to draft a plan that will build a more resilient future for our entire food system.”
The Food System Committee is hiring a consultant to facilitate the food system planning process, using the CFA as a foundational background document. Future opportunities for public involvement can be found here on the committee website: https://www.whatcomcounty.us/2992/Food-System-Committee
