FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 29, 2022
Temporary One-Way Traffic Pattern for Drayton Harbor Road BELLINGHAM, WA – Whatcom County Public Works announces a road closure and detour for westbound traffic on Drayton Harbor Road, west of Shintaffer Road, beginning on or about January 13, 2023. This area experienced a block slope failure to the westbound (waterside) lane and slope during the severe storms and king tides in November 2021. Initially, Public Works was hopeful the repair work could be completed in 2022. Following additional engineering evaluations, it was determined that more extensive repairs were needed. That, along with an extended timeline for permitting, means repairs will not be completed until the summer of 2024. Due to the increased timeline, the County Engineer has determined that it is in the best interest of safety to establish a one-way traffic pattern going eastbound on Drayton Harbor Road, along with a signed detour route for westbound travelers. A public hearing on a temporary one-way traffic ordinance will be held on December 6, 2022, during the regular Whatcom County Council Meeting at 6:00 PM.
