Whatcom County to Hold Stakeholder Reception for Public Works Director Candidates
Whatcom County will be holding a reception to introduce the three finalists being considered to fill the County’s Public Works Director position — Elizabeth Kosa, Dawn Uchiyama, and Mike Gent.
The reception is planned for Friday, March 10, from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. in the Civic Center Garden Level Conference Room, 322 N. Commercial Street, Bellingham, WA. During the reception, the candidates will have an opportunity to mingle and meet members of the community before and after brief presentations.
Kara Turner, Turner HR Services, is assisting Whatcom County with the process and will collect forms at the reception from those who wish to offer written feedback about the candidates. County Executive Satpal Sidhu will review those forms in making his decision. County Council will have the opportunity to confirm the appointment when a recommendation is made.
The County commenced a job search for the position following the resignation of Director Jon Hutchings in November. The Public Works Director oversees the largest Whatcom County department. Public Works' primary objective is to maintain the integrity of the Whatcom County Road System in an efficient, cost-effective manner that provides safe travel for the public. In addition, the department provides year-round ferry service to Lummi Island, flood control, noxious weed control, and natural resource and stormwater management. The salary range for the position is $11,056 - $16,053 monthly, depending on qualifications.
